November 26th, 2009 Posted in Lasik Articles

The average LASIK eye surgery cost has steady come down since it was first introduced some years back. Today there are more considerations that have to be taken into effect when the costs are figured. These are whether a mechanical blade or scalpel will be used or a laser scalpel.

Other factors are the mapping system that is to be utilized. Wavefront is the most expensive mapping system but also the best. The surgeons experience and standing in the community is another factor along with how much competition is in your area of residence. The final factor is the severity of the correction needed to bring the patients vision to 20/20.

With the country taken as a whole the following is a good guide to general prices for a variety of procedures. Specific prices will be more accurate after a consultation with an eye clinic is completed.

For non-customized LASIK with a mechanical microkeratome scalpel and the wavefront mapping system not utilized, the average price is in the neighborhood of just over $1500. For the same procedure using a laser scalpel the price is increased to just over $2000. If a laser scalpel is used and the wavefront mapping system is utilized, then the price is increased to just under $2500.

When receiving a price quote from any eye clinic ask what is included in the price. If the prices are far less than what is mentioned in this article, some things must have been omitted. The usual omitted costs are the associated fees like surgical instrument fees, surgeons fess, clinic fess, post medicine costs and follow up procedures.

When comparing LASIK eye surgery cost, asking for a comprehensive price will give you the best results.
