The traditional Lasik is when a mechanical blade or scalpel is used in the microkeratome procedure in which the precision is guided by the hand of the surgeon. This was the very first type of Lasik and there are still some performed. Because of the use of a scalpel to cut the corneal flap, this is also the cheapest procedure. There are reports of patience that have experienced problems with this procedure but over time the frequency has declined with the increase experience of the surgeon.

IntraLasik is the latest and most advance procedure that is used today. This procedure utilizes an all laser technique. This procedure also uses a computer to guide the laser in all aspects of the procedure. This is when a thin flap procedure can be used with the ultimate precision. A clean 130 micron flap can be cut that will assist in the speed of the healing process.

The greatest advance in the Lasik procedure was when the WaveFront mapping system was deployed. This is an added expense to the procedure but the accuracy is unparalleled with traditional Lasik. This system was originally used and perfected by astronomers to correct the imperfection of their mirror used in their telescopes. This system has also taken the doubt out of what is and what could be an abnormality on your lens. This system is controlled by a computer and is specific to each eye it analysis.

The best Lasik for each patient should be left up to the surgeon that knows what will work best for each individual patent.
